dispensationalism

Hello,

I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!

As I write this, we are winding down what has been an historic, albeit often very dirty, Presidential election cycle. I personally have never seen a cycle that has widened the divide in the United States quite like this one has. It has caused strife in families, and fighting among friends and co-workers. All of this and much more, reminds me that this country, and this world; are not governed presently by godly principles. While it is true that in the coming Kingdom Age, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our God and of His Christ”, such is presently not the case. No, at this present time fallen man is running the show, as it were. Such will not always be the case however.

In this series of late we have been looking at the Kingdom Age, the Millennium, as it is often referred to, as that word is from a Latin word meaning, “One thousand.” The Kingdom Age, or the Dispensation of Divine Government, will be a literal period of one-thousand years of peace and the righteous rule of God Himself governing this world. The Lord Jesus Christ will reign, along with King David, on the throne from Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem will be the hub, or focal point, of the entire earth. Yes, what a wonderful, glorious time this will be.

What about the spiritual conditions during this time? Marvelous spiritual conditions will exist during the time of the Millennium. Lets look at a few of these:

  • The Holy Spirit will be poured out in all of His fullness during this time. The Holy Spirit has already been poured out to a great degree, beginning on the Day of Pentecost in A.D. 33, and experiencing great fulfillment in these Last Days; but this will be completed fully and fulfilled in the Millennium and continuing on forever (See Joel 2:28 – 32; Ezek. 36:25 – 27; Acts 2:1 – 16, 38, 39).
  • During the Millennium there will be prosperity for all nations and glorious peace and universal religious activities (See Dan. 7:13, 14, 18 – 27; Rev. 11:15; 20:1 – 21:13).
  • During this time also universal knowledge will abound (See Isa. 11:9; Hab. 2:14; Zech. 8:22, 23). Great insight and understanding will exist, and there will be real freedom for the expansion and assimilation of knowledge and understanding. The Prophet Habakkuk wrote concerning this time:

For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea.” [Hab. 2:14]

This prophecy, or more accurately prophetic declaration, was first made by God Himself in the Torah, recorded in Numbers 14:21. Some commentators debate whether this will be fulfilled before or after the Second Coming of Christ, but certainly it will be true in the coming Kingdom Age.

  • There will also be missionaries in the Millennium. Our Jewish brethren will receive their Messiah, and they will finally fulfill their calling as, “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, becoming great missionaries of the Gospel and priests of the Law during this age and forever (Isa. 2:2 – 4; 40:9; 52:7; 61:6; 66:18 – 21; Zech. 8:23)

Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the LORD.’ Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” [Zech. 8:22, 23]

The promise was given to Abraham in the context of the Abrahamic Covenant, that his seed would be a blessing to all nations of the earth. One way in which they will be a blessing to all nations, is by carrying out a missionary program such as we have today:

How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Your watchmen shall lift up their voices, With their voices they shall sing together; For they shall see eye to eye When the LORD brings back Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem! For the LORD has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of all the nations; And all the ends of the earth shall see The salvation of our God. [Isa. 52:7 – 10 emphasis added]

There will be many who enter the Kingdom Age, in natural bodies, who have never made a personal commitment to Christ and who have not had a true born-again experience that will come to know Him. There will be those repenting and accepting Christ as today, and salvation will be for all, but they will need to make that personal commitment, they will need to receive Him (See Joel 2:32; Acts 2:16 – 21; Isa. 2:2 – 4; 11:9; 52:7).

AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS THAT WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.’” [Acts 2:21] This is true today, and will be true in the coming Dispensation of Divine Government.

In addition to all of these blessings, there will be divine healing for all (Isa. 32:1 – 5; 33:24; 35:3 – 6; 53:5), for Christ will be personally present as the divine healer, the Great Physician.

Listen to Isaiah’s prophecy:

Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.” [Isa. 35:3 – 6]

What does the Bible tell us about living conditions in the Millennium? Quite a bit actually, and they will be wonderful! First, there will be no tempter, because Satan will be bound! [Rev. 20:1 – 3]. There will be universal peace [Isa. 2:4; 9:6, 7; Micah 4:3, 4]. Swords will not be used for war, but rather they will be used for constructive purposes:

He shall judge between many peoples, And rebuke strong nations afar off; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken.” [Micah 4:3, 4]

There will be no harboring of prejudices and national ills. Spiritual revivals will break out in every land; and as people turn to God, they will be united in serving Christ. Attention will not be focused on wars, recessions, and depressions. People will live in full satisfaction with peace and prosperity, knowing the goodness and blessings of God in His wonderful reign. Many people talk about the, “Golden Age” of humanity, and try to bring it to pass by human means. It will never happen by natural, human effort, or by man’s programs. It will only come as God Himself brings it to this planet, and people turn to Him.

For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,” Says the LORD of hosts.” [Mal. 1:11]

In the Kingdom Age, there will be neither need or want, as Universal prosperity will be the order of the day (Isa. 65:24; Mic. 4:4, 5). Unemployment and poverty will be a thing of the past because there will not be massive amounts of money spent on evil and frivolous things as we have today. The world will operate once and for all on God’s economy and financial plan. This will be a tithe-based economy. It is important to understand that tithing was practiced before the Law (Gen. 14:20; 28:22), and was incorporated into the Law (Lev. 27:30 – 33), and has been practiced since the Law (Matt. 23:23; 1 Cor. 9:7 – 18; 16:1 – 3). This type of system will supply ample provisions for everyone. Since there will be no need for special taxes, there will be great resources available to promoting the spread of the Gospel.

During the time of the Millennium, human life will be greatly prolonged (Isa. 65:20; Zech. 8:4). The glorified saints ruling with Christ at this time of course will be immortal, but there will be natural people, in natural bodies, who will continue to live at this time. They will be able to live a thousand years; and if they do not ally with Satan and rebel against God in the end, they will live forever.

The human body was originally designed to live forever. Geneticists have many theories concerning why the human body ages and breaks down over time. Some say it is our genes which determine how long we live. Others theorize that aging and the breakdown of the human body over time occurs because of small changes and damage to our DNA, which changes render us unable to continue living after a certain period of time. As Bible believers however, we know that aging and the breakdown of our bodies, and our eventual death, occurs because sin entered the earth-realm. With sin came sickness, disease, and death. When the curse is reversed in the Kingdom Age, sickness and death will be a thing of the past for those who follow God’s program and ways.

Even after the entrance of sin and death into the earth, Adam lived 900 years. Methuselah lived 969 years. Enoch lived 365 years on earth, and has been alive in Heaven in a natural body for at least 5,000 years! It is a medical fact that the human body replenishes itself about every seven years, and should continue living forever, and will during this time.

In the Dispensation of Divine Government there will be an increase of light (Isa. 30:26; 60:18 – 22) to the extent that it will be increased seven times, and the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun today:

Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound.” [Isa. 30:26]

The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory.” [Isa. 60:19]

Light has healing and restorative powers, and this also may relate to man’s longevity in the Millennium.

There will be changes in the animal kingdom (Isa. 11:6 – 8; 65:17 – 25; Rom. 8:18 – 23). Their very nature will be transformed. No longer will they be fierce; and they will not kill; and they will not be poisonous.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.” [Isa. 11:6 – 9]

The earth will be restored to the wonderful beauty of its original condition (Isa. 35:1 – 10; 55:12, 13; Ezek. 36:8 – 12; Joel 2:18 – 27; 3:17 – 21; Amos 9:13 – 15; Rom. 8:18 – 23).

All of the past Dispensations, this present Dispensation of Grace, and the future Dispensation of Divine Government, all come with a test. During the Dispensation of Divine Government man will face the test of obedience to the laws of Divine Government and to Christ and the test of molding his character in harmony with God (Rev. 5:10; 11:15; 20:1 – 10).

Sadly, as has been the case in all past Dispensations, man will fail the test, and man will rebel against God, and ally with an outlaw spirit, Satan. Because of this rebellion, at the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released from his prison for a time to once again deceive the nations. All who follow him in rebellion and rejection of God, will follow him into the Lake of Fire for eternity.

We will conclude this study and this series next time with a look at this.

Until next time,

Pastor Kevin E. Johnson
