I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!
First, I apologize for this VERY late in the week post. I will post today, and then my goal is to get another post out Sunday evening.
Tuesday evening on History International a special was aired on the doomsday prophecy of the Mayans. It was based on that civilization’s highly sophisticated methods of keeping time and their elaborate calendar. It is difficult to fathom that this ancient culture had a method of keeping and measuring time that was far advanced of many things we have to this day. Where did they get their knowledge? That remains a mystery. At any rate, the premise of the program really centered on the date of “doomsday” that the Mayans set, which is December 21, 2012.
Interestingly, the ancient Chinese I’Ching also points to the date of December 21, 2012 as a date that will result in some sort of cataclysmic occurrence on earth. The prognosticators from both ancient cultures state that there will be a rare aligning of planets on that day resulting in a pole shift that will severely alter, and perhaps end life on earth as we know it. Check out this You Tube video of a History Channel special on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aPNcUJuiLY
If you go to Google® or one of the other internet search engines and type in 2012, you will find that there is a wealth of information out on the web concerning this date and the predictions surrounding it. Much of the information is speculative, and should be taken with the proverbial “grain of salt.” With that said, I do not believe that we should totally ignore these things either. What will happen, if anything, on December 21, 2012? We don’t know. We can only join in the speculation at best.
On the 13th of next month a new movie starring John Cusack is coming to theaters. Interestingly, it is titled 2012. I have seen the trailer and it looks as though it will be an edge of your seat thriller. The special effects look over the top. Let’s hope it has a story line to match. You can check out the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyCCd8MCcZY
What is going on with all of this? There are many implications; however I want to share a few thoughts with you that hopefully will put some of this into perspective Biblically. First,
It is time to get your house in order!
The Bible warns, For the time has come for judgment to begin, and to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s Good News? [1 Pet. 4:17 GWT] We are seeing, I believe, in many areas what can be called selective judgment beginning. This is being seen in weird and destructive weather patterns, floods, earthquakes with subsequent tsunamis, etc. And remember, it begins at the House of God. I believe there is a shaking going on in this hour that is going to reveal who and what is genuine, and that which is not will be removed. I don’t like saying that, but it is true.
The Bible says, A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. [Prov. 22:3 NLT] In view of current affairs and what the near future could hold, I believe wisdom and prudence would suggest preparing for danger in these times. Am I saying we should be in fear? Absolutely not. However, the prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. This would include, might I suggest, storing up bottled water, non-perishable foods, perhaps a battery powered radio, flashlight, matches, and some cash on hand in the event the banks fail or are inaccessible for a period of time. These are in view of things that could occur in the near future.
Getting our house in order would include also keeping short accounts with God. What do I mean by that? In short, do not tolerate even for a short time sin in your life. Simply stated, when the Holy Spirit alerts you to an area of your life that is not pleasing to Him, admit it and quit it! This is no time to be playing with sin. You may fool the Pastor, you may fool the church leadership, but you never fool God! He sees your life and mine as an open book. He already knows, He has already paid for it, so just repent and get on with your victory! [See 1 John 1:9]
Also, get rid of anger, bitterness, and let go of past hurts. You and I cannot afford to be nursing a grudge when we are living in an hour like we are. Forgiveness for a believer is not an option, it is a requirement! [See Matt. 6:15] Second,
Discern the season and understand prophetic time.
I believe it is extremely unwise to engage in date setting with respect to the Return of the Lord and our gathering together unto Him. Jesus said, But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. [Matt. 24:36 KJV] I believe the Lord meant what He said, don’t you? However, the same Jesus who said no man knows the day or hour of His Return, admonished us to know the season of His Return. He said, Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh. [Matt. 24:32 KJV] There is a detailed teaching on this statement of Jesus that I have done in a previous edition of THE WEEKLY WORD that I will not take the time to go over again right now. Suffice it to say that the fig tree is a symbol of the State of Israel.
In essence the Lord is saying, “Look at my people the Jews. Look at the State of Israel. The events there are an indication of the prophetic season.” He also said, Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. [Luke 21:29, 30 KJV] If the fig tree is national Israel, then “all the trees”, I submit to you, refers to the other nations of prophecy. Look at what is happening in the Nations of prophecy. They are a good indicator of the prophetic season we are in.
I will have much more to share on this next time.
The Weekly Word is found in 1 Chronicles 12:32. Here the Bible says,
And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment. [1 Chr. 12:32 KJV]
Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD
