 Hello,

I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!

We have been discussing of late Israel & the coming war. Of the three great wars of prophecy, Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and Ezekiel 38, 39; I believe that the Russo-Islamic invasion described in Ezekiel 38, 39 is the next event on the prophetic calendar. To clarify our position, I believe that Psalm 83 describes the war that was fulfilled in 1967 with the Yom Kippur war when the city of Jerusalem came back into Jewish control. Isaiah 17 describes a time when the city of Damascus will be utterly destroyed. This has never occurred, but will at some point in the future; possibly in connection with the war of Ezekiel 38, 39.

Why will the Russian leader (Gog) and his military forces (Magog), join with a confederacy of predominately Islamic countries (Iran, Libya, Ethiopia, etc.), to come against Israel in the Latter Years? The prophet tells us that the Russian leader will note the fact that Israel is dwelling securely, in a land of un-walled villages. This does not, as some have assumed, indicate that Israel is at peace. There is no so-called treaty that has ever given Israel and the Jewish people peace. The coming dictator, the antichrist, will adopt a seven-year “treaty” that will give the Jewish people a pseudo peace that will abruptly end after three and a half years. The Prophet Daniel describes this,

He will make a strong covenant with leaders for one week [of years]. For half of the week he will put a stop to the sacrifice and the grain offering. On the wing of detestable things the desolator will come and continue until the already decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator. [Dan. 9:27 CJB] Pleas note the fact that this will be a false peace, and will not be carried out as agreed. The time described by Daniel is not the same time frame described by Ezekiel. I submit to you that the security described by Ezekiel is due to Israel’s military might and prowess, not to the evil one’s “treaty” in Daniel’s prophecy.

I believe that all future wars will be waged for one of three reasons, and perhaps a combination of these. They will be waged for, 1) Oil, 2) food; or 3) water. With this in mind, let’s examine perhaps which of these three will move Russia and her allies against the State of Israel. First,

  1. OIL:

Will some vast, yet un-tapped oil reserves under the Israeli soil move these nations against Israel? Ezekiel prophesied, And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. [Ezek. 38:11, 12 KJV] Notice the word, spoil in this prophecy. Many years ago I read a book by a well-known Evangelist who stated that all one need do is to remove the s in spoil and the reason for the attack becomes clear. It is all about oil.

With all due respect, I must disagree with this brother. In terms of oil producing countries, Israel is 86th out of 90 in terms of reserves per barrel. This puts, according to recent reports, Israel with an oil reserve of 1,920,000 barrels. In comparison, the nations listed in Ezekiel’s prophecy have far greater reserves. For example, Russia is 8th in the world in terms of reserves with 69,000,000,000 barrels! Iran is 3rd with 133,300,000,000 barrels. Iraq 4th with 112,500,000,000 barrels. Libya is 9th with 40,000,000,000 barrels. In Ezekiel’s list of nations to come against Israel in the “latter years”, only Afghanistan and Ethiopia are behind Israel in terms of oil reserves. I submit to you that this attack will not be about oil.

II.                WATER:

The second thing that will spur future wars will be clean water supplies. Will water or the lack thereof, lead Russia and her allies to come against Israel? Not likely. Why do I say that? Because it is a well known fact that Israel has suffered from a chronic water shortage for years. In recent years this shortage has become so severe that it is feared that by the next summer it may be difficult to adequately supply municipal and household water requirements. The current cumulative deficit in Israel’s renewable water resources amounts to approximately 2 billion cubic meters, an amount equal to the annual consumption of the State. The deficit has also lead to the qualitative deterioration of potable aquifer water resources that have, in part, become either of brackish quality or otherwise become polluted. [Source: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/scarcity.html]

I think it is fairly easy to see that it will not be Israel’s vast water supplies that will move Russia and her allies against the land of Israel. This leaves only,

III.             FOOD:

Ezekiel prophesied, And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws… [Ezek. 38:4a KJV] Notice the phrase, hooks into thy jaws. This same idiom appears in both Ezekiel 29:4, and 2 Kings 19:28. It carries with it the idea of turning one in a direction he or she would not normally go. It could indicate an initial reluctance on the part of Russia to participate in this attack. The “jaw”, I submit to you, since it is used for eating, could be a hint that some sort of global food shortage or crisis will be the true cause of this attack occurring.

It is a well know fact that while most of the Nations listed in Ezekiel’s prophecy have greater oil and water reserves than Israel, Israel remains a major exporter of a wide variety of quality foods and food products. Israel has a growing food industry in everything from gourmet cuisine to dairy products. In fact, according to the Israel Export Institute, the value of Israeli food exports is predicted to rise by 60% over the next five years, reaching $1,000,000,000 by 2010. This is up from $650,000,000 in 2005.

Could an increased interest in healthy eating combined with a world food crisis turn the attention of Russia and her allies on Israel? I submit to you that it could. Time will tell.

One thing is certain; in the very near future a Russian led confederacy of nations will attack Israel with the intent to take a spoil. The once for all settled Word has declared it. This will happen. It would not surprise me if this occurs within the next three years. It merits paying careful attention.

The Weekly Word is found in Ezekiel 38:23. Here the Bible says,

Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD. [Ezek. 38:23 KJV]

Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD.
