I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!

There is a very interesting passage in Daniel 10 that I believe is very enlightening concerning the covert working of the enemy in government and nations. The prophet Daniel had set himself to pray and intercede for his people, the Jews, who were in captivity. The second nation of Nebuchadnezzar’s vision was in power, the Medo-Persians. From the time Daniel began to earnestly pray, some twenty-one days had elapsed. An angel finally appeared bringing Daniel’s answer. What caused the delay? The angel explains,

10 Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.
12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.” [Daniel 10:10 – 14 NKJV]

This was obviously not a natural prince or ruler that withstood this angel, and yet he refers to this being as the “prince of Persia.” This prince was the ruling spirit over the Persian Empire. This spirit and its cohorts were ruling in the heavenlies, controlling things in the physical kingdom of Persia. This ruling spirit is the one that hindered the angel from getting through to Daniel sooner than he did. Michael, the chief warring angel, had to come and assist this angel with the message for Daniel. The government in the natural was a reflection of the demonic hierarchy ruling in the spirit realm.

Make no mistake; the spiritual realm is very real. You and I may not see what is occurring in the spirit realm with our natural eyes, but there is much activity in that realm. Demonic activity in the unseen realm, manipulates, influences, and controls many of the things that occur in the seen realm. Notice verse 20, 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. [Daniel 10:20 NKJV] Of course we know from history that the Grecian Empire under the leadership initially of Alexander the Great was the next nation that the Jewish people had to deal with.

From a Biblical/prophetic perspective, six major empires have come on to the world stage and have faded into the fog of history. The seventh empire is yet to arise. It will exist for a short period of time and then be followed by an eighth and final empire, identified as the kingdom of the beast. We will say more on this in a future edition of THE WEEKLY WORD. However, for now, I want to look at the second channel that I believe the enemy is working through, this Mystery of Lawlessness, that has been working through the centuries to ultimately accomplish world domination, and bring in the son of perdition, the beast, the antichrist. This individual will come on the world scene at some point in the future. I personally believe this individual is alive today and in hiding until the time for him to be revealed. I also believe that much of what has been taught concerning this individual is unbiblical.

Jesus said 29 Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. [Luke 21:29 – 31 NKJV] We know that the fig tree in prophecy represents the State of Israel. “All the trees” refers to the other nations of prophecy. All of the prophetic nations are “blooming” and the stage is set for the final drama of the ages. We cannot afford to be ignorant of world events. More importantly, we cannot afford to be ignorant concerning what the Word of God says about these things. For the world this is a very frightening hour. For the church, it is a glorious hour!

I will not take a lot of space here at this time to discuss what is happening in the nations, and how it all applies to Biblical prophecy. We will take this up at another time. I want to focus presently on the United States of America. It troubles me that in thirty years of in-depth Bible study, I cannot find any reference to this Country in prophecy. It would seem, and I realize there are those who would disagree, that the United States does not and will not figure prominently in the end-time drama. Could it be that we will fade as all of the major world powers who have become before us have? One thing that is certainly occurring right now is that there is a major shift in emphasis from West to East.

In other words, the focus of the world economically, militarily, politically, and yes, spiritually; has shifted more to the east. We have moved far away from our foundation. America whether the liberal left likes it or not, was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. This means principles from both the Old and New Testaments directed the Founding Fathers in the framing of the U.S. Constitution and the first eighteen amendments thereof known as The Bill of Rights. I am not so naïve as to believe all of the Founding Fathers were committed Christians, because I know they were not. However, many of them were, and even those who did not profess faith in Christ were sympathetic and tolerant toward the Christian faith and Biblical principles.

That has shifted today, and it can certainly be said that America presently is not a Christian Nation. President Barrack Obama declared in a speech recently, “One of the great strengths of the United States, is … we have a very large Christian population — we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.” Really Mr. President? My question is, if America ever considered herself a Christian Nation, when did that change? The answer to that question would pinpoint the place we began to decline.

Now it looks as though Mr. Obama’s desire to reach out to the Muslim world will result in throwing our greatest ally in the world, Israel, “under the bus.” I believe that if that happens, as it appears that it will; our days as a Nation and a world power are numbered. Bible prophecy expert and author Mark Hitchcock, author of the new book, The Late, Great United States, outlines four possibilities why the United States is not specifically mentioned in Bible Prophecy:

  • America will still be a powerful nation in the last days, but the Lord simply chose not to mention her specifically. This is possible, but it seems unlikely. In Scripture, the dominant political and military power in the end times is centered in the Mediterranean and in Europe. This scriptural silence concerning America seems to indicate that by the time the tribulation period arrives, America will no longer be a major influence in the world

  • America is not mentioned specifically in Scripture because she will be destroyed by other nations. She will suffer a fall from the outside. Those who hold this theory are quick to point to the notion that America will be crippled by a nuclear attack. However, in recent days the terrorist attacks on our nation have led some to conclude that our own freedom and technology will be the Achilles’ heel that brings us down.

  • America is not mentioned in Bible Prophecy because she will have lost her influence as result of moral and spiritual deterioration. She will suffer a fall from the inside. As you can imagine, this is a very popular view today in light of the moral malaise we see all around us. Proponents of this view have no trouble citing alarming statistics related to drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, children born out of wedlock, divorce, pornography, abortion and on and on.

  • America is not mentioned in Bible Prophecy because she is brought to her knees by the Rapture. If the rapture were to happen today and all the true believers in Jesus Christ were whisked away to heaven in a split second, America would be devastated. It is estimated that America will lose somewhere between 25 and 65 million citizens: Christians and their small children. Not only would the country lose a minimum of 10% of her population, but she would also lose the very best, the “salt and light” of this great land (see Matthew 5:13-14).

I guess we will have to wait and see which, if any, of these possibilities play out. One thing is for sure, the Mystery of Lawlessness can definitely be seen at work in the government systems of the world.

Next time we will look at the third God-ordained institution through which The Mystery of Lawlessness is at work, the Christian Church. Please, plan to join me then.

The Weekly Word is found in 2 Peter 2:1 – 3. Here the Bible says,

1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;

3and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. [2 Pet. 2:1 – 3 NASB]

Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD.
