I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!
With Adam’s transgression in the Garden, sin entered the earth realm. The Bible tells us, 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. [1 John 3:4 NKJV] The KJV says that sin is the “transgression of the law.” God had set a boundary, if you will, in the garden. He had told the man and the woman that they could freely eat of all the trees in the Garden. The exception to this was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil [or, blessing and calamity] in the midst of the garden. [See Gen. 2:16, 17]
They of course ate of the tree, and thus transgressed the law, or the boundary, that God had set. With this act of spiritual high treason against the high court of heaven sin entered the earth realm. The authority or dominion that rightly belonged to man was handed over to an outlaw spirit formerly known as Lucifer, now the serpent or Satan. With this entrance of sin into the earth, Satan now had legal right, given to him by the man, to introduce his plans and purposes into the earth. The enemy began to work covertly, or secretly to subvert, supplant, and substitute God’s law or boundaries. Paul identifies this working of the evil one as, “The mystery of lawlessness.” He writes in 2 Thessalonians 2:7,
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. [2 Thess. 2:7 NKJV] Much insight can be gained often by taking a look at the old classic commentaries. One of these classic commentaries is the Jameison, Fausset, and Brown commentary on the Bible. Commenting on verse 7 A.R. Fausset writes,
7. The mystery of iniquity–the counterwork to “the mystery of godliness” (1Ti 3:16). Anti-Christianity latently working, as distinguished from its final open manifestation. “Mystery” in Scripture means, not what remains always a secret, but that which is for a while hidden, but in due time manifested (compare Eph 3:4, 5). Satan will resort to a mode of opposition more conformed to the then imminent “appearing” and “presence” of the Saviour, and will anticipate Him with a last effort to maintain the dominion of the world [DE BURGH], just as at His first advent he rushed into open opposition, by taking possession of the bodies of men. “Iniquity,” Greek, “lawlessness“; defiant rejection of God’s law (compare Note, see on JF & B for Zech 5:9, Zech 5:10). “Wickedness” (translated by the Septuagint by the same Greek, meaning “lawlessness,” which Paul employs here), embodied there as a woman, answers to “the mystery of iniquity,” here embodied finally in “the man of sin”: as the former was ultimately banished for ever from the Holy Land to her own congenial soil, Babylon, so iniquity and the man of sin shall fall before Michael and the Lord Himself, who shall appear as the Deliverer of His people ( Dan 12:1-3 Zech 14:3-9 ). [Jameison, Fausset, Brown Commentary on The Bible]
I found this comment very interesting as well as quite enlightening. This “mystery” or secret works behind the scenes until it is revealed or manifested. I believe that the enemy anticipates the nearness of the Return of Christ and has therefore mounted this last ditch effort to take control of the world and bring in his man, the antichrist. Thank God, in these last of the Last Days, the veil is being pulled away and this “mystery” is being revealed.
I shared in an earlier post concerning what are, I believe, the main channels through which this secret work of the enemy is functioning. These are the three God-ordained institutions of: A) The Home, B) Government, and C) The Church. Last time, you will recall we shared how Satan and his evil minions have worked through the years to infiltrate marriage and the family to change the family unit into something other than what God intended. He has done this in many ways, some of which we shared last time. [If you didn’t get to see last week’s edition, please visit https://pastorkj.wordpress.com. It is entitled, “The Mystery of Lawlessness, II]. The second channel through which the enemy has worked down through the centuries is,
Dispensationally speaking, human government was instituted following the flood. Before Noah and his descendants lay a purified earth and their responsibility to govern it. God gave Noah and his sons dominion on the earth, and ample authority to rule it. [See Gen. 9:1, 2] By the time we get to Genesis 11, we see the inhabitants of the earth traveling east and finding a plain in the land of Shinar. [See Gen. 11:1 – 4] Interestingly, this is the same area that was later known as Babylonia or Chaldea, the birthplace of false religion. We clearly see the enemy coming in to subvert, supplant, and substitute God’s plan for the earth. In the dispensation of human government, man was given the responsibility and privilege to govern the earth under and in cooperation with God. We know that man blew it royally!
As we continue to read in Genesis 11 we find what could be referred to as, “The Law of Unity.” The LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.” [Gen. 11:6 NKJV] When a group of people get together, with one mind and one purpose and a single goal, nothing is impossible to them! This works positively or negatively. Here the people were united for an evil purpose. However, in Acts 2 when the Church was “born”, we find the people (120 disciples), in one accord in one place. The “Law of Unity” is illustrated in the positive there.
There is no doubt that Satan works through government. High ranking evil spirits known as, “rulers of the darkness of this world” [See Eph. 6:12] are assigned over specific regions of the world to rule in the unseen realm and orchestrate the will of Satan over regions and nations. One can learn a great about the ruling evil hierarchy over any given geographical area by observing the human government in that area. One thing is for sure, the ultimate goal of Satan’s evil agenda is to wrest ruler ship of the earth away from God, establish his rule over the earth, and ultimately bring in the very embodiment of ultimate evil, the antichrist.
I have much more to say on this next time!
The Weekly Word is found in Daniel 10:12, 13; 20. Here the Bible says,
12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. [Dan. 10:12, 13; 20 NKJV]
Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD.
