I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!
If you will recall in the last edition of THE WEEKLY WORD, we began to discuss what the Bible refers to as “The Mystery of Lawlessness.” As we discovered in our word study of 1 Thessalonians 2:7, this “mystery” is a secret working of Satan to subvert, supplant, and substitute the plans and purposes of God for the earth; and especially for humanity. The ultimate goal of this mystery or secret is world domination and the bringing in of the antichrist.
We also stated that this mystery has been at work for thousands of years, and really began in the Garden of Eden. We also stated that while this covert working of the evil one has had many channels down through the centuries, it has primarily been working in the three God-ordained institutions of the home, the government, and the Church. In these last of the Last Days, revelation from the Holy Spirit is pulling the cover off of this mystery and exposing it so that a warning can be issued to all who will hear what the Spirit is saying.
It is the timing of the Spirit that this should be done now. I want to share a verse of scripture that we shared last time, to make this a little clearer. Daniel 12:4 states, 4 But you, O Daniel, shut up the words and seal the Book until the time of the end. [Then] many shall run to and fro and search anxiously [through the Book], and knowledge [of God’s purposes as revealed by His prophets] shall be increased and become great. [Dan. 12:4 AMP.] I sincerely believe that you and I are living in the time of the end.
You will also recall that we pointed out that “lawlessness” is transgression or rejection of the law, specifically the law of God. This secret is a refusal to receive, acknowledge, and operate in the law or Word of God.
Let’s examine these three institutions and see some areas that this “mystery” can be seen in. First,
- THE HOME:
Make no mistake, marriage, the home, and the family is God’s idea. He instituted the family structure. Back in the Garden God performed, if you will, the first marriage ceremony. He created man, including male and female, in His image, after His likeness. [See Gen. 1:27] After creating the animal kingdom and the man, the Lord God recognized that it was not good that the man should be alone, so He then created a helper suitable for the man. The Bible says, 18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” [Gen. 2:18 NKJV]
It is important to note here how God fulfilled the man’s need for a helper comparable to him. The Word continues, 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. [Gen 2:21, 22 NKJV] Notice that God filled the gap in the man’s life with a woman. Isn’t that interesting? Can you see God’s pattern here? Then in verses 23 – 25 we see the first marriage covenant instituted.
I want to be clear here so there can be no misunderstanding. The plan and purpose of God for marriage is one man and one woman for one lifetime. This means several things that we need to note briefly.
- Divorce was never intended by God. In the Law provision was made for the issuing of a bill of divorcement. [See Deut. 24:2 – 4] However, as we come over to the teachings of Jesus we see very clearly why divorce was allowed in the law. He said in answer to the Pharisees question on divorce, 8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. [Matt. 19:8 NKJV] Notice that divorce was permitted because of the hardness of heart of the people. It was because of, if you will the working of the “Mystery of Lawlessness.” Divorce and re-marriage is a much broader topic than I have space for here. Perhaps we will examine it in greater detail at another time.
- Same-sex marriage is a perversion of God’s original intent. I know that is a strong statement, but somebody needs to be saying it. When Adam needed a partner the Lord God didn’t bring him another man, he brought him a woman! Can I be a little clear here? There is a reason for the differences in the male and female anatomy. The “plumbing” is different for two basic reasons: 1) Procreation – It is only a man (sperm) and a woman (egg) that as they come together sexually can produce a child. Two men cannot do that, neither can two women. 2) Pleasure – Contrary to popular belief among many Christians, it is not dirty for sex to be pleasurable. Preachers need to be proclaiming these truths in the pulpits of our churches.
- God intended for there to be clearly defined roles in the home. The Bible says, 3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. [1 Cor. 11:3 NKJV] You need to understand that there is no difference in the Greek between the words, “Man” and “husband” and “Woman” and “wife.” I point this out because Paul was not saying that man is the head of every woman, but only his wife. This is God’s order in the home. The husband is the “head” of the wife in the home. The husband and wife team are the head of the children. This is God’s order. The wife is to submit to the husband. Does that mean that the husband has the right to be a “control freak”, domineering jerk? Not at all. God’s order is in place to promote peace and harmony in the home. Spiritually, Jesus is the head of both. The husband is not the wife’s spiritual head, he is her domestic head.
Can you see how the “Mystery of Lawlessness” has come in to “muddy the water” and in general bring confusion on marriage and the family? No wonder we have a generation of confused kids who don’t know if they are a boy or a girl. We live in a culture that says it is ok for Johnny to have to two daddies and for Susie to have two mommies. But guess what? God still says it is NOT ok. If we want the blessing of God on this nation, we must get back to His plans and purposes. If not, we had better get ready for judgment! And I have news for you, it begins at the Church!
I have more to say next time.
The Weekly Word is found in 1 Peter 4:17. Here the Bible says,
17 For the time [has arrived] for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will [be] the end of those who do not respect or believe or obey the good news (the Gospel) of God? [1 Peter 4:17 AMP.]
Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD
