I greet you once again in the Name of Jesus!
We continue this week looking at some difficult to understand prophetic passages. As I stated last week, I believe there are many nuggets of revelation contained in these passages. We begin this week with a passage that is similar to last week’s. It is not in the context of Jesus’ Olivet Discourse. It introduces another very interesting prophetic thought.
7. SECOND COMING TIME ZONES:
34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left. [Luke 17:34 – 36 NKJV]
Two thousand years ago, we know from ancient history that civilizations flourished in and around the Mediterranean Sea area. Three major empires had dominated this region: The Egyptian, Babylonian, and Grecian Empires. In Christ’s day, the Roman Empire occupied the nations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and made inroads into the areas of Asia, Northern Africa, Great Britain, and Spain.
This was the known world of that time and the common trade routes for ships and merchants. Two thousand years ago, no one was aware of the land that would later be named South America, The United States, or Canada. To be more specific, people living in the Roman Empire were unaware of the existence of various time zones on the other side of the world. When it is five o’ clock on the east coast of America, it is midnight in Israel, since Israel is seven hours ahead.
In Christ’s day, men and women worked during the day and slept at night. At that time there were no jobs or work activity that required a night shift. Most people were farmers and shepherds, and went to bed at sunset and arose at sunrise.
Jesus made an interesting statement when He said that at His Return, there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left. We now understand something that people two-thousand years ago didn’t know. At Jesus’ Coming, some people will be working, while others will be sleeping! Jesus actually revealed there would be different time zones on earth at His Coming, something that was not realized 2,000 years ago before the unknown continents became populated with citizens and nations.
For example, if Christ returns at midnight in Israel’s time, it will be five in the afternoon of the east coast of America, two in the afternoon in California, and so forth. Some will be caught up to meet the Lord from the workplace and others will be snatched out of their beds where they are sleeping.
The important thing is to ready no matter what time it is when Jesus comes!
The Weekly Word is found in John 3:29. Here the Bible says,
29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice So this joy of mine has been made full. [John 3:29 NASB]
Until next time, this is THE WEEKLY WORD.
